Matthew Good – A Mainstay of Canadian Music

During the 1990s the Matthew Good Band was probably Canada’s most successful alternative rock band. They had a string of big hits such as “Apparitions”, “Hello Time Bomb”, “Strange Days”, “Weapons”, and “Load Me Up”. Around the turn of the 21st century the band disbanded (officially in 2002) and Matt Good went off to record solo albums.

His latest album is Arrows of Desire and it has been described as bare bones sounding.  Over his career there has been ups and downs.  Times of big commercial success and other quieter times.  The man does not shy away from controversy and speaks his mind.  An extensive blogger, Good has written many a word on the state of the music industry today, which he asserts to be dead.  He has won four Juno Awards and has refused to accept any of them.  Definitely a salmon who swims agains the current.

While he is a little older, Matt Good, now also a political and human rights activist, has always been recognized as a fiery performer putting plenty of energy into his live shows. The lyrics to the songs are edgy and thoughtful while the music is fast-paced.
