American musician Jim Heath performs under the name Reverend Horton Heat. His trio plays a unique brand of rockabilly that has been called psychobilly. The sound is a combination of country, surf, punk, big band, swing, and rockabilly. Whatever sound or influence they are using it is always loud and full of energy.
Around since 1985 they began by playing gigs in their native city of Dallas. The constant in the trio has been Jim Heath with the other two members changing occasionally. Right now they are Jimbo Wallace (upright bass) and Scott Churilla (drums). The band is on the Victory Records label.
Though you might think that a trio like this would service a particular niche of music fans and not to have been commercially successful they have had some. Reverend Horton Heat music has been used in commercials as well as on movie soundtracks and video games. Having released 11 albums on several different labels as well as a couple of DVDs they have earned themselves a solid following.
