The end of the season for the Opera de Montréal is upon us. It has gone by quickly! This is your last opportunity for a while so take full advantage.
Their last production will be Puccini’s Turandot. Turandot was Puccini’s swan song and thought of as his most lavish opera. Everything is big. Big characters that require big voices. Excess is the order of the day. The opera is in three acts and has a running time of 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Story goes as such: They say love is blind and deaf so Prince Calaf (Kamen Chanev) falls for the evil Princess Turandot (Galina Shesterneva). In order to marry her he must solve three riddles. The bad part is not that if he gets one wrong he doesn’t get to marry his love, but also he will get decapitated. Rough! Still against these odds and threat of death he forges on with the help of his faithful servant Liu.
The cast is made up of international opera stars. A voice well known and beloved by Montreal opera fans, Hiromi Omura has a starring role as Liu. The rest of the cast will also win your hearts over.
Act quickly as three of four nights are already sold out.
