The Kills Bring Their Sparse Sound to the Stage

the-kills-liveCross Atlantic cooperation is what The Kills are all about.  Lead singer Alison Mosshart is from the United States and guitarist Jamie Hince is from England.  They got together when Alison heard Jamie practicing in the hotel room above hers.  When the bands they were in broke up they began a long distance song writing partnership sending music back and forth to each other.  Alison finally decided that waiting for music in the mail was not working and moved to England.

In a departure from the punk and rock music they previously produced, Mosshart and Hince began making a fusion of blues and garage rock that was incredibly minimalist.  With their last album there was also a change of gears.  The sound is more forceful and dirty, if you will.  Plenty of guitar distortion and noise.  The Kills released their fourth and most recent album, Blood Pressures, in April 2011.  It is a critically acclaimed piece of work.  One of the songs from the album was used on the very popular American television series True Blood while another was used on The Vampire Diaries.  Something about the band’s music seems to work on television shows starring vampires.

Working on a new album they are touring to flesh out the new music.  It should be completely different as they are said to be looking towards reggae and dubstep for inspiration.  A band that keeps you guessing!

This general admission show is all ages.
