Each year since 1997 different cities in the United States have hosted an electronic music festival called Electric Daisy Carnival. Over its 17 years the festival has grown from a couple of thousand attendees to hundreds of thousands and it has pulled in fans from all over the planet. In 2013 the city was Las Vegas and around 345,000 people attended. Directors Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz bring to us the unique perspective of six different groups that attended the music festival. It was not released in Montreal so this is a chance to see it.
Interspersed betwixt the interviews with the six groups are the performances of artists like Fatboy Slim, Kaskade (who has also contributed the score for the film), Afro Jack, Dillon Francis, Tiesto, Avicii, and Armin Van Buren. We get a peek behind the scenes and into all the details of how a show this big is put on.
The six groups are all different with different cultures, economic statuses and sexes making them up. So obviously we get a variety of opinions and outlooks, but what they all have in common is that they are coming to the festival with the idea of losing themselves in the music. We start with the six groups before they even get to the festival, how they travel there and then the three days they spent at it.
