French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour has had a career that has spanned 8 decades after being discovered and then taken on tour with her by Edith Piaf when he was 13 years old. At the age of 90 he is still going strong and performing. The French Frank Sinatra will be hitting the stage in Montreal to the delight of his fans.
With sales in the 100 million album range he is one of the most popular and successful French singers of all time. As far as his Armenian heritage he is arguably the most well-known Armenian ever. What has set him apart from other singers besides his longevity is his unique voice. A tenor, Aznavour’s voice is clear in its upper register while when he hits the low notes it becomes rather gravelly. He is also able to sing in several different languages including French, German, Italian, English, and Spanish.
Besides singing he has also acted in over 60 films. On his CV are such films as The Tin Drum, Ararat and Shoot the Pianist.
