Most of us roll our eyes when it comes to live albums ranking it right up there with the dreaded Christmas album. We chalk it up to the lazy musician’s way to get closer to fulfilling their recording contract’s obligations. That is not the case with bluesman Gary Clark Jr. as his live album is a blazing confirmation that they guy is the most talented young artist working in the blues genre today. It is an affirmation of his prodigious talent level. Everything he does well or brilliantly is on display here. Live he is able to spread his wings and show off that talent. When the song demands it Gary Clark Jr. is able to add some funk or soul vibes in or be dirty and heavy. Many of the songs on this album beg to be played at full volume. The songs were recorded on different stops on his latest tour. Backing him up is a very talented band. Especially impressive is the rhythm section. Also his second guitarist really rounds out the sounds behind his blistering solos. Never hesitant, always passionate and confident, Gary Clark Jr. shows that his future is bright despite some missteps in the studio.
