Humour is mixed with romance in Rossini’s oft done The Barber of Seville. It will have your heart bursting at the same time you are busting a gut at the humour. The story goes thusly – a beautiful young woman named Rosina is betrothed to Bartolo, a gentleman much older than her. Almaviva, a poor young man, has his heart broken by this as he is love with Rosina. He is prepared to do anything to make sure she does not marry Bartolo. To do so he engages the help of Figaro.
After having won audiences over all across Europe, native Quebecer and baritone Étienne Dupuis is back to play the role of Figaro, one of the most famous roles in all of operaland. It will be fun to see him in The Barber of Seville in front of his hometown crowd.
