Samson and Dalila: A Biblical Tale of Love Courtesy of OdeM

samson and delila preview2At 2:40 minutes including two intermissions there is a lot of love to go around in Opera de Montreal’s production of Samson and Dalila.  It is a brand spanking new production for the company.  The opera was written by Camille Saint-Saëns then debuted in 1877 and features Juno Award-winner contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux in her very first go around as Delilah in Montreal on top of being directed by 2013 Opus Award for Musical Event of the Year for Dead Man Walking for stage director Alain Gauthier.  Lemieux has grown quite a reputation throughout Europe where she is very popular. The emotional diva will have plenty to work with as the material is very emotional. Captivating with its melodies and features the famous “Mon Coeur S’Ouvre à ton Voix”.

The story is as old as the hills and features the seductress Delilah, who has discovered what makes strong as an ox Samson (German tenor Endrik Wottrich) weak – herself.  That is what it appears until it is posed that what might be Samson true strength is his faith.

Showing that it truly is a crowd favourite all four nights of Samson and Dalila are sold out.
