In the process of divorcing from his wife (Sally Field – from television’s Brothers and Sisters), Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams – Good Morning Vietnam, Jumanji) is heartbroken by the judge’s ruling that he will not get shared custody of his own children due to his unstable life. Daniel is a voice actor who routinely gets fired from his jobs because he is really a child in a man’s body.
When his ex, who is dating a stunning new man (Pierce Brosnan – Mama Mia, The Thomas Crown Affair), announces that she will be needing a nanny for the children because she will be working longer hours Daniel comes up with what he believes is the solution to all his problems.
Daniel comes up with the plan to dress up like an elderly British woman and apply for the nanny position. No one recognizes him and Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire so he gets the job. The kids love him, he now has a steady job and he gets to spend tons of time with his three kids. Trouble crops up when Daniel becomes jealous of his ex wife’s new relationship with Stu and his cover could be blown as a result.
Robin Williams is totally in his element with this role. He is the whole show! Williams gets to dress up, act crazy and do a bunch of wild voices. The role is tailor made for him and he truly looks like an older woman. It a comedy that is good for the entire family and a whole lot of fun to watch.
