The excellent entertaining musical adaptation of The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz is a delight to see at the Segal Centre. The essence of Mordecai Richler’s remarkable story of an ambitious enterprising young man who learns life lessons is brought to life by David Spencer’s lyrics, Alan Menken’s music and the direction of Austin Pendleton.
Ken James Stewart, who plays Duddy, as with all the performers in this show, takes you through the story that many of all know in a fun, refreshing, new, and musical way.
The eight piece orchestra led by Jonathan Monro sounds much larger than it is due to the capable multi instrument players in it. Meaningful and memorable melodic songs like Art and Commerce and Turn It Around will be running through my head for years to come.
From the start there was such a popular demand that the show has been extended to July 5, 2015. Don’t be disappointed and reserve your seats now!
