grannieGrAnnie, a splendid new parody musical, is a fun cross between Annie and the Golden Girls. The Cote St Luc Dramatic Society Summerworks Project combined the talents of senior citizens, other community members and emerging young artists to produce this very charming and entertaining show.

The lovable GrAnnie, played by Hannah Sheffren, made me think of a groovy Yiddish Bubby. She was abandoned by her children at a retirement home run by the sinister Ms. Handsyman, well played  by Jordana Kujavsky. GrAnnie’s endearing personality wins the affection of her temporary adopter, the wealthy businessman Sonny Starbucks, played by the animated, enthusiastic and capable Herb Brownstein. He likes her so much that he offers a large reward and a campaign to help find her family. When rescued by her feisty retirement home friends from a diabolical plot to fraudulently collect the reward, GrAnnie discovers that her home is where her heart is.

The Cote St Luc Dramatic Society is supported by City Councilor Mitchell Brownstein, a talented actor himself, and Mayor Housefather. The always growing CSLDS gives an increasing amount of opportunities for participation and creates an overall sense of community for everyone. Stay tuned for more of their outstanding shows!
