Loads of bands are criticized for having their sound continuously evolve whereas UK band Foals is applauded for it. Throughout their time together they have worked on, refined, experimented with, expanded and fine tuned the music they make. The result (and it continues to be) is a rich, layered and complex brand of music that has won them the appreciation of many a music fan. It is not simple music in that it takes a few listens to fully appreciate what they are going for. Some anthems, distorted guitars, bluesy rock, and even some metal makes an appearance on a track or two on What Went Down. The band themselves have stated that this their fourth album is the heaviest they have ever done. What I think is that they have added ten more songs that will sound great played live in arenas and festivals.
