the x files season 5Fox finally confirmed rumours that The X-Files will be coming back for a short run right after the New Year. For fans of the series this will be like a late Christmas gift. Watching Mulder (played by David Duchovny) and Scully (played by Gillian Anderson) together again trying to find out the truth while trusting no one but each other.

Season five of the series was the midpoint of the original series that lasted nine seasons. It is chock full of what fans of the series loved about it. There are of course episodes that deal with the government conspiracy/aliens theme. The season is bookended by the excellent “Redux” and “The End” which deal with exactly that. With its big cliffhanger that makes it seem like this is the end of the X-Files but is actually a jumping off place for the feature film that was released in theatres that summer.

In between there are some terrific stand-alone episodes that involve all kinds of weird stuff. Fan favourites involve “Bad Blood” and “The Post-Modern Prometheus”. Leading on those fans who want something to happen between Mulder and Scully are plenty of lingering looks, tenderness, hand holding, and even jealousy. We really see how far the two will go for one another. Complex stories and relationships.

Keep your eyes peeled for guest appearances by a wide variety of actors/actresses like Luke Wilson, Lily Taylor, John O’Hurley, Richard Belzer, Jerry Springer, Brent Butt, Garrett Dillahunt, and Mimi Rogers.
