Trainwreck – Blu-ray/DVD Combo Edition

trainwreck blu rayOf late Amy Schumer can do no wrong. Beloved by fans of comedy and even a darling of the critics her career has been really taking off the last couple of years. This people is her big screen breakout. You are seeing a star begin to burn bright.

Ever since she was a little girl (Devin Fabry – first film) it was repeated over and over to Amy by her father (Colin Quinn – Grown Ups 2, A Night at the Roxbury) that monogamy was not realistic for humans. She grew up believing that was true. Now as an adult Amy (Amy Schumer – from television’s Inside Amy Schumer) works as a writer for a magazine she continues to live a life free of commitment. Her life is anything but boring or settled basically it is lots of drinking and one night stands; she is totally pedal to the metal.

For her latest assignment for the magazine she has to interview a sports doctor. Soon she finds herself falling for the charming Aaron Conners (Bill Hader – Superbad, Her). Soon she begins to wonder if he is the one and if it is possible to commit to one person.

Though Amy Schumer, who wrote and stars in the film, is definitely the star of Judd Apatow’s (Knocked Up, Pineapple Express) film, but keep your eyes open for the myriad of cameo appearances in the film. Don’t blink or go for popcorn or you will miss Lebron James, Tilda Swinton, Brie Larson, John Cena, Daniel Radcliffe, Marisa Tomei, Keith Robinson, Tim Meadows, Amar’e Stoudemire, Marv Albert, Chris Evert, Matthew Broderick, Randall Park, and Method Man. It is a fun game to play Spot the Celebrity during Trainwreck. Not that you will need a diversion to get through this funny film.

Nothing else needs to be said about the film other than it is delightfully crude and the funniest I have seen for a long time. Despite the fact that there is nothing really original behind the story of Trainwreck that doesn’t really matter because you are too busy laughing at the outrageous things coming out of Amy’s mouth. All the snappy humour is not really political, but aimed at making fun of our obsession with pop culture and other superficial things. You get biting jokes about Alex Rodriguez, Kanye West and even Willy Wonka. This is just the beginning of the age of Amy Schumer.

The only negative I can muster up about the film is that it runs a little long at just over two hours, but that just means more time for ridiculousness courtesy of Miss Schumer.
