Breaking Bad was one of the most beloved television shows of this decade by viewers and critics alike. When it ended there was a void left in the television world. The same creative minds behind Breaking Bad are back and have brought with them a character from their former series.
It is Saul. Saul Goodman (played by Bob Odenkirk). Except that he is not Saul. Saul is Jimmy McGill. And Jimmy McGill is not a lawyer. He has been saved from going to jail for conning people by his lawyer older brother, Chuck (played by Michael McKean), and works in the mailroom at the law firm Chuck is a partner at. He straightens up and flies right while going to school at night then finally passing the bar on this third attempt. Now it is Jimmy who is going to be the saviour.
Chuck has some mental issues and believes he is allergic to anything that has a battery or basically anything outside of his own home. He can no longer work and so it is up to Jimmy to take care of everything. Jimmy is struggling. He is broke, has no clients and has an office in the storeroom of a nail salon.
While on Breaking Bad Saul was an interesting character. It is a different kettle of fish all together to have a likable supporting character into one that carries a show on its own. This show works because the character has a deep backstory that can work itself out over several seasons. Plus Bob Odenkirk is so good in the character it doesn’t fizzle out from overuse.
