At 68-years-old James Taylor has had a lengthy and highly successful career and is considered one of the best American singer/songwriters ever. He started his music career in the middle of the 60s, but found success during the 1970s. His poignant and gentle songs were adored by millions.
After kicking a life-threatening heroin addiction in the late 1960s, Taylor got his act together and recorded a string of huge hits including “Fire and Rain”, “Carolina On My Mind”, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)”, “You’ve Got a Friend”, and “Handy Man”.
After his marriage to fellow singer Carly Simon ended in divorce in the early 1980s, Taylor continued on with his career working with such artists as Allison Krause, Mark Knopfler, Dixie Chicks, and Luis Conte. He has continued to release top selling albums up until the present.
Due to his ongoing success and influence on present day artists many awards have been bestowed upon James Taylor. He has won 5 Grammy Awards and is a well-respected musician amongst his peers. Taylor was inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. In 2006 Grammy’s MusiCares honoured Taylor as their Man of the Year. Musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, Carole King, Sting, and Bonnie Raitt performed his songs at a black-tie tribute event.
One thing that has not changed throughout his career has been Taylor’s involvement with environmental and liberal causes. He has played benefits for MusiCares, Alliance for the Wild Rockies, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, and America’s Second Harvest.
