Brit Florence is an artist at the top of her game. The girl can do no wrong. Musically, that is.Since the formation of the band in 2007 most of the focus has been on the ethereal flame haired lead singer, Florence Welch. Florence Welch is the woman to take this all on her slight shoulders and make it her own.
She rocks harder than most females nowadays. She loves a good crunching guitar and plenty of reverb. Retro sound. All its throwback glory now has become fully realized. It is fully reverential to the past and also totally modern at the same time. Florence’s powerful voice and ability to make us love and not cringe at the drama she is bringing. Florence worships at the altar of Kate Bush and Grace Slick. It is not often that someone can so heavily reference the past and yet sound so modern.
The songs are anthemic and once again feature Florence’s powerful vocals. Squeezing all the emotion she can into her songs without making it too much, you cannot listen to this music without being affected by it and the story she is telling. Marching to the beat of her own drums, Florence has made music filled with dramatic and aggressive music that is unlike anything else being made today.
She has managed to live up the high expectations set by the brilliance of her debut album. A rare bird this Florence.
