Not Ready to Hang Up Their Instruments Yet The Cult Hits the Road

the cult live 20162Known in their native England originally as a post-punk band in the mid 80s before they broke over here in North America in the late 80s, The Cult have been around since 1983.  Their first single met with massive success.  “She Sells Sanctuary” was followed by other big hits like “Rain”, “Love Removal Machine” and “Fire Woman”.  Soundwise, the band has evolved from post-punk to hard rock.

Their road as a band has not been a smooth one.  There were some alcohol and substance problems and other tensions amongst the members.  All the unrest led to the band breaking up in 1995.  Four years later they got back together and released their seventh studio album, Beyond Good and Evil.  After that there were several lineup changes and long breaks between tours and albums.  The two constants have been lead singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy.  Presently the band is rounded out with Grant Fitzpatrick on bass, Damon Fox on keyboards and John Tempesta on drums.

The Cult released their latest album, Hidden City, earlier this year.  It was written after coming off the road from their last world tour.  It is said to be the final part of a trilogy which began with Born Into This.  Once again they worked with producer Bob Rock on the album
