In the beginning Beirut was a solo project for American Zach Condon then it became a band. The line-up has changed quite often over their time together, but presently there are six members in the band. Despite what you might think in regards to their name it is not a political statement and they had never even set foot in Lebanon until performing there in 2014.
Their sound is a cool combination of indie rock and world music. As such, it should not surprise you that the band’s music includes many non-traditional rock instruments like trumpet, flugelhorn, ukulele, trombone, glockenspiel, and sousaphone. A debut album, Gulag Orkestar, was released in 2006. A fourth and most recent album entitled No No No was released in the fall of 2015.
