Mark Hoppus (bass/vocals), Travis Barker (drums) and Tom DeLonge (vocals/guitar) formed Blink 182, a pop punk outfit, in 1992. Over the course of their time together they sold over 27 million albums. Their success began in 1999 with the release of their album Enema of the State which spawned the hits “All the Small Things” and “What’s My Age Again”. Their music/lyrics are very tongue in cheek with plenty of humour.
In 2005 DeLonge took a leave from the band, so Blink 182 went on hiatus. He went on to form the band Angels & Airwaves during the break while Barker and Hoppus formed +44. They got back together in 2009 and the release of their sixth album, Neighborhoods, was released. Six years later DeLonge was gone again to be replaced by Matt Skiba. They released their seventh album, California, this year.
Their music is labeled as pop punk as they are usually filled with teenage angst and simple melodies. Humour plays a large part in their music and live shows. They have said that bands like Pennywise, Bad Religion, NOFX, and Descendents are their musical influences. Many consider them the grandfathers per se of the pop punk movement in the late 90s that brought forth bands like Paramore, Good Charlotte and Fall Out Boy afterwards.
