Ash vs Evil Dead: The Complete First Season – Blu-ray Edition

The horror film The Evil Dead is a huge cult favourite in that genre. It seems logical that the film that has gained millions of fans over the years since its original release way back in 1981 would not be turned into a television series. The world and television is ready for it. A plus is that a lot of the people behind the original film are back for this reincarnation.

Over the past thirty years Ash (played by Bruce Campbell) has done his best to live a slacker’s life. Avoiding responsibility and not maturing in any way is what Ash is all about. That plus steering clear of anything to do what he went through thirty years prior. It is totally possible until a new threat crops up.

ash vs evil dead season 1A Deadite plague has cropped up and is threatening all of humanity. This leads to less than willing Ash being the man called up on to save the world. Ash does not have to do things alone as he has a trusty sidekick in Pablo Simon Bolivar (played by Ray Santiago) helping him wage the battle. That is not to say that they are without trials and doubters. Ruby (played by Lucy Lawless) is someone who is not so sure about Ash. She even believes that he might be the reason for the plague. There is also disgraced Michigan State Trooper Amanda Fisher (played by Jill Marie Jones) who believes that Ash is responsible for the murder of her partner. She is not going to stop hounding him until she proves he is guilty of the horrible crime.

Ash is back and so is all the gore and fun. Though because it is thirty five years later the improvements in technology aid a series like this. The special effects are much improved adding to the realism and grossness. What hasn’t changed is that there is plenty of action/fights and odd ball humour.

Some long-time fans might have feared that their much loved film would be defiled by modern hands but have not fear as it is quality television. You will not be disappointed. The things you loved about the original film like over the top gore, zinging one liners and the slaughter of the Deadites are all there in great quantity.
