Queen of the Charts – Adele Live!

adele-live-2016This incredibly talented Brit just exploded on the charts with her debut release.  Adele’s first album “19” (the age she was when she wrote it) was a hit and earned her two Grammy Awards.  The Grammys (Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Performance) were unexpected as she pretty much had flown under the radar on this side of the Atlantic.  She was another of British female singers who were singing in that retro soul style.  It was only after her appearance on SNL (on the Sarah Palin show) in which North America woke up and took notice of her.

Her second album “21” (I don’t have to explain it now, do I?) came out four years later in 2011.  It also was a massive hit.  The first single “Rolling in the Deep” was at or near the top of the charts for months and the album itself was been number one for many weeks.  Adele mania has took over.

The sound of her music on the second album has changed from soul to roots and country.  She has said it is because her tour bus driver played a lot of contemporary country music while she was on the road. Though it was her first exposure to that type of music it obviously left an impression on her. There is still a “classic” sound to the music.  The sentiment behind the songs has not changed from the first album as it is another one about heartbreak.  She wrote the songs, like she did for “19”, just after a brutal break up with her then boyfriend.  Pain begets good art they say.

After a long break after the birth of her first child, Adele came out with her album “25” and claimed she was worried if the fans would remember her or like.  Fear not, Adele, as it too was a massive hit going platinum in short order.  The first single “Hello” was absolutely massive and the subsequent ones , “When We Were Young” and “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)”, have also been well received.

The October 1st show is sold out, but a few tickets remain for September 30.
