24-year-olds are usually in the midst of figuring out who they are and what they want to do in this life. Charlie Puth is an exception in that he seems to have known for a long time the answer to both these life questions.
Seems like it was destiny as Charlie was born into a family in which his mother was a music teacher and he was blessed with perfect pitch. He was always going to be a musician, in other words. At the age of 4 he started learning to play piano and by 2013 he was a graduate of the Berklee College of Music.
In 2009 he started his own YouTube channel which he called Charlies Vlogs. It was filled with comedy stuff and cover songs. While doing this he attracted the attention of Ellen DeGeneres and she quickly signed him to her record label. After releasing a couple of songs on this label he then moved on to the big time by signing with Atlantic in 2015.
The first big label songs released by Puth met with great success. “Marvin Gaye” with Meghan Trainor and “See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa for the movie Furious 7 both spent plenty of time on the Top 40 charts. During this time he also worked with other artists like CeeLo Green, Lil Wayne and Jason Derulo.
His debut full-length album was released in 20016 and called Nine Track Mind. It features the hit singles “One Call Away” and “We Don’t Talk Anymore” with Selena Gomez.
