Imagine if this Canadian band would have kept their original name – Tokyo. Would they have been as successful as they were in their heyday? Formed in 1983 in Ontario, other than drummer Michael Hanson leaving the band in 1988 the line-up has remained the same. Alan Frew (vocals/guitar), Sam Reid (keyboards, Al Connelly (guitar), and Wayne Parker (bass) have remained through thick and thin. Drummer Chris McNeill came on in 2000.
The band has released six studio albums and one live album over the course of their almost 35 years together. The biggest commercial success was their 1986 debut album, The Thin Red Line. That album sold well in all of North America. With the singles “Don’t Forget Me (When I’m Gone)” and “Someday” attaining the Top 10 on the Billboard chart. All this success earned the band five Juno Awards and a Grammy nomination.
In 1993, after a short Canadian tour, the band decided to take a break. This allowed lead singer Alan Frew to record a couple of solo albums. They reformed around the turn of the century and began touring again in 2003.
