Besides the subject matter of the opera, you can tell this is a modern work as it is only 2 hours 10 minutes in length with only one intermission. All joking aside, David T. Little’s opera is in English with subtitles in English and French. Little wrote the music while the lyrics were penned by Canadian born Royce Vavrek. The two together have been named as one of the more exciting young opera teams working today. Thaddeus Strassberger is the stage director.
American President John F. Kennedy is a man, who in his short time in office, left quite a mark on 20th century history. The story is set a mere 12 hours before the assassination of the American President. We are in a hotel room in Fort Worth with John (Matthew Worth) and Jackie (Daniela Mack) trying to get some sleep. The dreams they are having are brought to life for us. We learn plenty about the famous couple, their relationship and troubles. These are their final moments together. American mythology composed by hopes, dreams and fears.
The opera has moments of joy alongside those that might bring tears to your eyes. It examines how the death of JFK still affects the people of the United States. How the country, after the assassination which is not shown, was now in the midst of uncertainty. Historical event that is based upon human experience.
