The Atwater Market/Sud Ouest section of Montreal has become very hip and happening over the last couple of years. Plenty of great drinking spots and restaurants have popped up in the area. One of the more unique spots is the Canal Lounge.
Located on the Lachine Canal just behind the Atwater Market is an Amsterdam style boat which is permanently docked and is a cool place to go for a drink. Two men bought the canal boat and renovated it (which took two years) and now it is a place to go have a drink while feeling like you are are on the water without running the chance of seasickness.
While the drink menu is pretty basic the price is also affordable, so that is a plus. You can get a great Aperol Spritz , an Old Fashioned or a Dark and Stormy which features a nicely spicy ginger beer.
As for food they have a small snacks type menu. Things like a charcuterie and cheese plate will do the trick while you have a couple of drinks. Service is pretty quick as the place is not very big.
All of the seating is indoors except for a couple of chairs in the front and a lovely, but small terrace (good for about 6 people) on top.
They don’t take reservations, so it is a first come first served kind of establishment. They open at 3 p.m.
