Colombian singer Shakira has had a whirlwind beginning to her music career. Everything she touches seems to turn into a hit. Well, let me correct that. Since she began recording music in English she has become a worldwide hit. Starting off recording songs in Spanish in the early 90s, Shakira was a flop. Her first two albums did not sell well. Then around the middle of 90s she decided to do things her own way and that was a wise decision as she has gone on to win 2 Grammy Awards, 7 Latin Grammy Awards, 12 Billboard Latin Music Awards, and a Golden Globe nomination.
Her first album featuring her own brand of music went on to make her a huge star in Latin America and Spain. After another big selling Spanish album she released her first English album, “Laundry Service”, in 2001 and aided by songs like “Whenever, Wherever”. With subsequent album releases she has racked up top selling singles like “Hips Don’t Lie”, “Waka Wake (This Time for Africa”, “She Wolf”, and “Underneath Your Clothes”. Next up was her album, “Sale el Sol/The Sun Comes Out”, which was released in the middle of October 2010 was a bilingual effort.
Changing gears she then took a gig on The Voice in 2013 and 2014 acting as a coach. After she was done she returned to recording music and her tenth album Shakira was released in 2014. Most recently she released El Dorado in 2017. Now her first tour in seven years is happening.
