On Saturday, November 17, one of the world’s most inspiring breakdance [Bboy] crews, ILL-Abilities™, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary by throwing a one-of-a-kind jam in collaboration with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal. The international crew is comprised of eight professional Bboys who are differently-abled and have individually made a name for themselves within the global competition circuit. Together as ILL-Abilities, they have made a remarkable impact through their jaw-dropping performances, uplifting workshops, and participation in high-level competitions. This will be the first time all eight members will be together in the same room.
This event promises to deliver an action-packed evening!
No Limits Concept Dance Battle
Created by ILL-Abilities, this unique concept challenges both local as well as internationally invited dancers to think outside of the box. For each battle, dancers must spin a wheel labelled with various constraints and adaptive aids. The wheel therefore determines what the dancer must apply or use in their dance performance. An example of possible items found on the wheel could be a wheelchair, crutches, or a blindfold. The goal is to have each dancer not only demonstrate various ways of using the imposed restriction as an advantage but also build on the strengths and abilities that they possess.
HEROES Showcase Battle
This battle features student dancers who have a disability dancing alongside professional dancers who do not have a disability. The formed pair must work together to creatively adapt their movement while having an open mind.
ILL-Abilities Theatrical Performance
ILL-Abilities will be debuting a segment of a brand new theatrical dance piece created for future tours around the world. This is the first time that the full eight member Bboy crew will be sharing the stage together, proudly representing six countries: Canada, USA, Chile, Brazil, Holland, and South Korea.
