Perfect example of modern rock today is the American band Young the Giant. They epitomize the sound of today. There is still some evolution going on though. Previously they have been described as a rock band with plenty of Coldplay influence whereas now they are flying their New Wave flag. You’ll catch plenty of electronic sounds within most of the tracks. Catchier beats than they have ever indulged in previously. It is rock music with a view to the future. They don’t demonstrate any signs of fearing change or experimentation. With members of the band being from all kinds of backgrounds (Indian, Persian and even Quebecois) it is understandable that where they stand within the American landscape is on their minds.
After some roster changes The Jakes released some music in 2009. What does this have to do with Young the Giant, you ask? Well, after releasing an EP in 2009 The Jakes changed their name to Young the Giant. Now as Young the Giant they released their self-titled debut album in January of 2011.
After releasing the singles “My Body” and “Cough Syrup” the album was considered by many as one of the better alternative rock albums of 2011. They then got another spike in popularity when their song “Cough Syrup” was performed on the popular television series Glee in 2012.
Early this year Young the Giant released their follow up album entitled Mind Over Matter which contains the singles “It’s About Time” and “Crystallized”. Both singles made it into the Top 20 U.S. Charts. Mind Over Matter was released on the best named label out there, Fueled by Ramen.
This year they have recently released a new album called Mirror Master.
