I thought I was all cool when I bought a ticket to go see Irish quartet Kodaline. Because I only listen to Irish radio I got to know their music well and saw their debut album spawn several hit singles. Little did I know that I wasn’t the only one in on the secret. Their show at Metropolis sold out so quickly that another date was added the next night.
If you are not familiar with the band then stop reading and head to YouTube and watch/listen to their music. The Dublin-based rock band plays a very catchy brand of music. They have an interesting history in that they began in 2007 under the name 21 Demands and their first single “Give Me a Minute” went to the top of the Irish charts making them the first independent act to achieve that. In 2001 they changed the name to Kodaline and in 2012 the last member of the band, bassist Jason Boland, joined and they were complete.
In 2012 Kodaline released an EP called The Kodaline EP and the song “All I Want” got them plenty of attention. In June of 2013 they then released their debut feature length album, In a Perfect World. It contained the hit singles “High Hopes”, “All I Want”, “Love Like This”, and “One Day”. Their music has been compared to Coldplay and Mumford & Sons. Their second album was released called Coming Up For Air. The singles “Honest” and “The One” both gained significant airplay.
This year they released The Politics of Living. Before that in 2017 the first single off the album, “Brother”, was released. Followed this past spring by “Follow Your Fire”.
