It all began way back in 1991 in Suffolk, England for them. They have evolved over the years through several metal sounds from black to Goth to symphonic and finally on to extreme. Many of their songs have strong images running throughout them that are influenced by poetry, horror, mythology, and Gothic literature.
In an abrupt change from their early years, and much to the chagrin of some of their early fans, the band has recently gone about seeking out mainstream publicity. This has made them a more accessible entity and gained them some high profile coverage by the likes of MTV. They have begun to play at larger music festivals like Ozzfest and Download. With this recent attention they have become the most successful British metal act since Iron Maiden.
Casual fans have accused the band of being Satanists, but in actuality they make very few references to the Prince of Darkness in their music. The band is much more interested in topics like horror, gore, madness, and sex than Satan.
One of the opening acts is Wednesday 13. WEDNESDAY 13 continues to support his highly successful Condolences which was released on June 2, 2017 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The album was produced, mixed and mastered by Chris “Zeuss” Harris (HATEBREED, ROB ZOMBIE). Artwork was created by Travis Smith (OPETH, KATATONIA, NEVERMORE).
