Kiran Gandhi, who performs as Madame Gandhi, is an electronic musician and activist based in Los Angeles.
Having gained recognition as the former drummer for M.I.A., Thievery Corporation and Kehlani as well as the viral free-bleeding runner at the 2015 London Marathon, Madame Gandhi now produces music that elevates and celebrates the female voice.
Madame Gandhi’s song “The Future is Female” climbed to #8 on the Viral US Top 50 Spotify Charts following the 2017 Women’s March and her EP, Voices, has received critical acclaim from outlets like FADER, Paper Mag, and Milk. She is currently working on her debut album.
Madame Gandhi will perform at MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) for two exceptional performances on March 29 and 30. She will be accompanied on stage by 8 female musicians:
Los Angeles :
Noor Khan, Michelle Muñoz and Daiza
Tika Simone and Odile Myrtil (Background
Vocalists), Salin Gas (Drummer), Samantha
Sylvestre (Bass) and La-Nei Gabriel (Sax).
And what to expect from the show:
“This week’s show in Montréal will be particularly special as Madame Gandhi will be joined on stage by an all-female identifying live band of local musicians, to perform a body of work that asks the question, “what does it mean to ‘own your voice’ in a time when consistent conformity is rewarded?” “How do we come together to transcend language and cultural barriers in order to combat oppression?” This live collaboration will also feature one of her unreleased songs “Waiting For Me” from her upcoming EP “Visions”. This song is about determining how to live in today’s world that often requires us to participate in hierarchical norms that are not actually good for us. She will move between performing some songs live from the drum set, some from her percussion rig, some from a vocal loop pedal, and some from centre stage backed by Tika The Creator and Odile Myrtil. The live show is a mix between live and electronic sounds, and is an immersive, womb-like, dreamy experience that inspires, uplifts, educates and delivers joy.”
