Launched in 2017, Balkan Bump is the latest project from from trumpet player, producer and ethnomusicologist, Will Magid. Making the project’s debut on Lowtemp, Magid recruited superstar collaborators, Talib Kweli and Lowtemp label head Gramatik, to kick off the project alongside him with debut single “Aymo.” Finding an affinity based in his own Balkan roots, Gramatik has championed the new project; debuting Balkan Bump’s first live performance at Gramatik’s anticipated NYE show at Terminal 5; taking Balkan Bump’s live show on the road for the Spring 2018Re:Coil tour; and releasing Balkan Bump’s self-titled EP via his Lowtemp.

Today, Balkan Bump is now returning to his Lowtemp home with a brand new single title “Can U Hear It.” As with his previous releases, Magid has again recruited an all-star cast of collaborators for the single, this timeGift Of Gab (one half of famed Bay-area duo Blackalicious) andDeuce Eclipse. A fusion of live instruments, world influences and lush electronic production, “Can U Hear It” solidifies Magid’s eclectic sonic style that is as contemporary as it is classic. Lyrical wizards Gift Of Gab and Deuce Eclipse provide whirlwind top-lines for the single on their own individual verses. The music video for the single also provides a real window into the creative magic of Balkan Bump as the viewer gets a firsthand glimpse into the studio as “Can U Hear It” is performed by a full band directed by Magid. In addition to “Can U Hear It,” the release also features previously released single “Raindrops,” an uplifting electronic-meets-organic instrumentation production, whose proceeds went directly to the victims of California’s deadly 2018 wildfires.
