ACPAV, Maison 4:3 and Wazabi Films are pleased to announce that Sophie Deraspe’s film Antigone has been selected as Canada’s entry in the race to be nominated in the Academy Awards best-international-feature-film category. In 2019, sixty countries had been invited by the Oscar academy to submit films for consideration.
Next December a short list of nine titles will be announced and the five nominees will be selected among those films by the proper Academy commitees.
Antigone had its World Premiere at TIFF and received the Canada Goose Award for best Canadian feature film. The International Premiere will be held at Busan international Film Festival (October 3- 12) whereas its Quebec Premiere will take place during Montreal Festival du nouveau cinema (October 9 – 20).
Antigone is written and directed by Sophie Deraspe who is also the DOP. The lead character is played by Nahéma Ricci alongside Nour Belkhiria, Rachida Oussaada, Antoine Desrochers, Rawad El-Zein, Paul Doucet, Hakim Brahimi, Jean-Sébastien Courchesne and Benoit Gouin.
Antigone, contemporary adaptation of Sophocle’s tragedy is produced by Marc Daigle with associate producer Isabelle Couture. A Corporation ACPAV inc. production with the financial participation of Téléfilm Canada, SODEC, Harold Greenberg Fund the film is produced in collaboration with Maison 4:3, Fonds Québecor, provincial and federal Tax credit programme s, with the participation of Super Écran, Radio-Canada and difuze. Maison 4:3 is the film distributor. WaZabi Films is handling the international sales.
The film will be theatrically released in Quebec on November 8th.
