Portrait of a Lady on Fire Available on Video on Demand on April 3



Awarded the Best Screenplay prize at the last Cannes Film Festival, the film portrays a burning love story betweena painter, Noémie Merlant, and her model, Adèle Haenel in Brittany on the 18thTh Century. The film has received numerous nominations and awards throughout the past year, including at the Golden Globes, at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, at the 25th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards as well as Independent Spirit Awards. 

1770. Marianne is a painter and is commissioned to paint the wedding portrait of Heloise, a young woman who has just left the convent. Heloise resists her fate to become a wife by refusing to pose. Marianne’s going to have to paint it in secret. Introduced to her as a companion, she looks at her and commits what she sees to memory so she can paint.

 PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE is Céline Sciamma’s fourth feature film. After Naissance des pieuvres, Tomboy and Bande de filles the director here continues to explore her favorite themes of female ambiguity, the discovery of desire in young women and sexual identity through the blossoming of love between two women ahead of their time, portrayed by Adèle Haenel, for whom the role of Heloise was written, and Noémie Merlant.

PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE (PORTRAIT DE LA JEUNE FILLE EN FEU) will be available on video-on-demand from April 3 on iTtunes and on the following platforms on April 14: Illico, Cogeco, Telus, Bell and Vimeo.
