SOFI TUKKER will celebrate the one year anniversary of their acclaimed livestreams with a special extended livestream on March 12th beginning at 1 PM ET on their Twitch and Facebook channels. The group will do a 90 minute set and will then raid into Sophie’s solo set  for Femme House Fridays. At the very start of quarantine, the group did an impromptu livestream and enjoyed it so much they committed to doing them daily during the pandemic. The DJ sets are hybrids involving live vocals and instrumentation and have an  improvisational nature that allows them to develop and test unreleased material. The sets also allowed the group to have regular interactions and a closer relationship with their audience and a  community evolved out of the streams that dubbed itself the “Freak Fam”. The wildly popular livestreams led to SOFI TUKKER being the second most livestreamed artists in 2020 according to Pollstar.  SOFI TUKKER encourage the Freak Fam to dress in their favorite animal attire for the anniversary set.

At the start of the livestreams, no one could have imagined how long the pandemic would last. After doing hundreds of daily sets, SOFI TUKKER wanted to share their platform and highlight some of the artists in their community and ones that inspire them. They have curated a series of residencies and special one off sets on their Twitch and Facebook  where the Freak Fam and these artists can revel together. In March, the group welcome Icona Pop, UNIIQU3, HANA, QRTR, Rocket Pengwin, Dipha Barus, Mahmut Orhan, and Callie Reiff. Full schedule below.

SOFI TUKKER’s remix of Kaela’s “Spiral” will be released on March 19th. Kaela is an LA based singer songwriter who is a vocalist and keyboardist in M83. The original “Spiral” showcases Kaela’s entrancing and daring music which fuses nostalgic elements like retro synth sounds with experimental production and a DIY sensibility. SOFI TUKKER’s remix adds an immediacy to the dreamy original, playing with the original’s  layers to put the spotlight on Kaela’s voice and underpinning it with a propulsive rhythm.

Kaela shares how the remix came about, “”Well, I was touring with French-electronic band M83 and Sofi Tukker was opening for M83 for a while and I got to know them and like millions of other people, I fell in love with their music and thankfully we stayed in touch!  When I wrote “Spiral”, I kept thinking that it had a vibe that was tight with their style and had great potential for a remix, so I reached out and they felt the same.  The result is the remix and their stamp on it is unmistakable.  Love, love love it!”
