Maison 4:3 is presenting three premieres during the 27th edition of the CINEMANIA Film Festival. Playground (Un monde) by Laura Wandel, Happening (L’événement) by Audrey Diwan and Another World (Un autre monde) by Stéphane Brizé will screen at the festival before hitting theatres in Quebec in 2022.

Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize of the Un certain regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, and representative of Belgium at the next Oscars®, Playground will be presented at CINEMANIA as a North American premiere in the Visages de la Francophonie competition. This first feature film by filmmaker Laura Wandel is an immersive dive into the world of school, experienced at the height of a child. Nora enters elementary school when faced with the harassment of her older brother Abel. Torn between her father who prompts her to react, her need to fit in, and her brother who asks her to remain silent, Nora finds herself caught in a terrible conflict of loyalty. Two special screenings will take place with the filmmaker in attendance, including a panel discussion on bullying with Émilie Bierre and Jasmin Roy.

Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, Happening by Audrey Diwan (Losing it) will be premiering in North America. The film tells the story of a young woman’s physical and emotional struggle to access illegal abortion in a desperate race against time, in 1960s France. A powerful and captivating drama set in a society which condemns female desire and sexual freedom.

Another film which premiered in the official competition at the Venice Film Festival this year, Another World by Stéphane Brizé (At War) will be screened as a Canadian premiere at the festival. The film stars Vincent Lindon in the role of an executive manager, at the point when his professional choices are about to overturn his life, but also that of his wife and his family.
