From Monday, November 15 until March 2022, the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, Downtown Montreal, the Grand Marché de Noël, XP_MTL, the Festival Noël dans le Parc, and MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE will make downtown a magical, festive and warm winter destination. As health measures ease, their many initiatives will allow the public to experience Quartier des spectacles and a lively and lively downtown that will brighten up the holiday season.

In a safe environment, Montrealers will be able to enjoy a tour of light and interactive installations, spontaneous performances, encounters with local artisans, warm facilities, and other joyful surprises! True winter magic that will make the heart of the city an unmissable event to celebrate our nordicity. Along an illuminated and pedestrianized Sainte-Catherine Street from De Bleury Street to Saint-Laurent Boulevard, a wide range of free activities for all will be offered and the holiday atmosphere will find its magic!

Spotlight on Peel: Honoring the Clans of Kanien’kehon:ka

An initiative in downtown Montreal in partnership with Mohawk Council of Kahnawake, Heritage Portfolio, KORLCC, the borough of Ville-Marie, and ISM – Art & Design.

As you stroll down the street, learn about the rich history of the First Nations and step back in time as you learn about the origins of the Kanien’kehclansa:ka!


Winter illuminations

On Sainte-Catherine Street West, McGill College Avenue and Sherbrooke Street
An initiative from downtown Montreal

More than 500 luminous decorations will be installed for more than eight kilometers in the city center this winter. The traditional holiday illuminations will be back along Canada’s largest commercial thoroughfare, but new features will also be coming this year! The first clues to a true luminous urban forest will be in place on McGill College Avenue and will delight young and old alike. On Sherbrooke Street, downtown will make way for public art with a bright open-air art gallery. Let yourself be transported by the magic of the lights downtown!

A co-production of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, Montreal centre-ville, the Société de développement de l’avenue du Mont-Royal, the Borough of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles and Culture Trois-Rivières.

In front of St. James United Church, discover this interactive and luminous work! This 100% local co-production directed by Alexis Laurence and Francis Laporte of Perséides studio will spend 2022 on tour throughout the province.

Composed of three luminous and colorful structures, Les Diamants shines with a thousand lights by reflecting daylight and illuminating once nightfalls. By working together to spin each installation, the work offers a harmonious waltz of lights and music that fills the eyes and ears.

Spontaneous winter activities

In addition to festive decorations and commercial bargains, Downtown Montreal offers to add even more magic to the downtown atmosphere with spontaneous strolls and entertainment. Even if the traditional Santa Claus Parade does not take place this year, it does not mean that Santa Claus from Montreal will be absent from the festivities. Stay tuned!

“Despite the challenges caused by the pandemic, the summer season has been a great success for downtown. To continue this dynamism throughout the winter season, we will offer Montrealers a unique experience combining nordicity and the magic of the holiday season! In addition to the many decorations that will illuminate the streets of downtown, the merchants of downtown will offer you several activities, bargains and surprises. Moreover, with a little luck, you may even meet Santa Claus! In short, this winter, downtown will offer a lively shopping experience that you won’t find anywhere else,” said Glenn Castanheira, General Manager of Downtown Montreal.

After an absence of several years, the downtown portion of the city on November 20 and for the whole holiday season the most anticipated event of the winter: its Grand Christmas Market. The public will be able to support local artisans while enjoying delicious mulled wine, comforting churros and a variety of gourmet offerings. Young and old will appreciate the enchanting scenery and the rich free program with many shows, concerts and animations. It is even rumored that Santa Claus will come to meet Montrealers.

“We have worked very hard for almost two years to bring about the return of the Grand Marché. It is a joy to see the outcome of this work and the enthusiasm it arouses,  » added Line Basbous, Executive Director of La Lutinerie, the organization that promotes the fairytale circuit.

XP_MTL is back in downtown Montreal with The Odyssey, where tales and legends come to life. To sprinkle the magic of the holiday season, giant installations, a showcase contest, entertainment, and musical performances await visitors on Sainte-Catherine Street West! 

«The Odyssey offers a formula that invites you to live your own holiday adventure in downtown Montreal. The past two years have been particularly challenging for merchants and Quebecers, and we want to contribute to the magic and happiness in the heart of the city with our works created with local artists and artisans,” said Jean-François Daviau, President and Co-Founder of XP_MTL.

For its 12th edition, Luminothérapie will give the Quartier des spectacles a festive look! Composed of luminous and interactive works, it is a luminous route all in colors that will be offered to the four corners of the Quartier. New interactive installations join classics such as the works Impulse and Entre les rangs, and a moment of sound and light will bring together young and old in a gigantic celebration of Montreal in winter, inviting, effervescent, and warm. Come and fill up on light and wonder, a great winter scene awaits you!

Christmas Festival in the Park

The 28th edition of the Festival Noël dans le Parc will feature eclectic musical evenings with country, hip-hop, pop, rock, and traditional music shows. Staged in an urban fir forest, the event will bring together young and old at Place Émilie-Gamelin in the Quartier des spectacles. Come celebrate the magic of Christmas, attend free musical concerts, have a good time with your family and buy your natural Christmas tree!

MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE

Quartier des spectacles

For its 23rd edition, MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE will offer a program of luminous works and outdoor projections in collaboration with the flagship event that is Luminothérapie. Investing the Quartier des spectacles and the four corners of the city, with a gourmet program that focuses on local restaurateurs and producers, the festival will also present theatrical shows, the highly anticipated Nuit blanche, as well as an outdoor site with exclusive performances and winter activities to illuminate the cold season and warm hearts and taste buds!

“MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE’s mission is to make our winter shine while celebrating the vitality of greater Montreal’s restaurant and hotel industry.
