The RENDEZ-VOUS QUÉBEC CINÉMA (RVQC) has announced that the opening film of their 40th edition will be NOÉMIE DIT OUI, the very first feature film by screenwriter and director Geneviève Albert! The film will have its world premiere in Montreal on February 23, 2022, on the opening night of this anniversary edition that promises to be festive and unifying. For this special edition, the RVQC will travel through five regions of Quebec during the festival with the actors and crew of the film in order to present it to the public for the first time! Noémie dit oui stars actors Kelly Depeault, Emi Chicoine, James-Edward Métayer, Myriam DeBonville, Joanie Martel, Fayolle Jean Jr, and Maxime Gibeault.

“We are looking forward to launching the festivities of the 40th Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma with Noémie dit oui, a powerful up-and-coming film driven by a female perspective! Geneviève Albert has made an impactful feature film that addresses an essential and topical subject, as film knows how to do so well. With the presentation of Noémie dit oui as the opening film, we will start our 40th edition with strength and emotion! ” said Sylvie Quenneville, Executive Director of Québec Cinéma.

“Through this first particularly touching feature film, Geneviève Albert tackles head-on a key issue that manages to upset us. The acting of the young Kelly Depeault, striking in her role as a teenager caught in the trap of prostitution, and the vision of the director will certainly provoke important reflections. I can’t wait for the public to discover this little gem launched as part of the Rendez-vous! ” says Olivier Bilodeau, Director of RVQC Programming

“To be selected to open the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma with my first fiction feature film is a great honour. I feel like I won the Olympics at my first participation! I share my joy with my lead actress Kelly Depeault, my producer Patricia Bergeron, and my entire team. Thank you! ” says Geneviève Albert, director of the film

The 40th edition of the Rendez-vous will kick off with a great Blue Carpet Evening presented by Bell at the Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts. Five other Blue Carpet Evenings and premieres will take place in Drummondville at the Cinéma Capitole on February 24, Gatineau at Cinéma GATINEAU 9 on February 28Quebec at the Cinéma le Clap on March 1st, Sherbrooke at La Maison Du Cinéma on March 2nd and in Trois-Rivières at the Tapis Rouge on March 3rd. NOÉMIE DIT OUI is produced by Productions Leitmotiv and distributed by K-Films America. Noémie (15), an impetuous but endearing teenager, has been living in a youth centre for three years. When she loses all hope of being taken back by her mother, Noémie runs away from the center in search of freedom. She will join her friend Léa, an alumnus of the center, who introduces her to a gang of delinquents. Soon, she falls in love with the flamboyant Zach (20) who turns out to be a pimp. A fine strategist with ambiguous love feelings, Zach encourages Noémie to prostitute herself. Recalcitrant at first, Noémie “says yes” and falls overnight into the life of an escort.

The Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma 2022 will unveil the complete program of their 40th edition on February 8. This anniversary edition promises to be rich in cinema and encounters with more than 275 films and a multitude of free activities. The RVQC will take place from February 23 to March 5, 2022 in person and also on an online platform.
