Tara MacLean – “If I Fall” (Sparrow Version)

Canadian singer Tara MacLean says “I originally wrote “If I Fall” as the theme for a TV show called Felicity in the late 1990s. The whole song came together in ten minutes on my piano. It was a wonderful exercise as I had never written for a project other than my own music, which allowed me to take an unabashedly hook-filled approach.

While the song wasn’t used for the show, my record label loved it and we ended up releasing it as a single in 2000. Upon its release, “If I Fall” was the number 2 most added song to AAA radio in the United States. The version of “If I Fall” you hear today is a new re-recording produced by Daniel Ledwell. I wanted the words to be inspiring and encouraging, to make listeners feel as if there is nothing they can’t do, that we have everything inside of us that we need to keep going.”

She continues, “Returning to this song made me realize how prophetic these lyrics were for me in my search for stillness and accomplishing my dreams.

It seems so easy now

Everything I dreamed about when I was a child

It looks like a good place here

So I think I’ll stay for awhile

At this point in my life and career, I am able to see how I have achieved so much of what I set out to do, and this song was part of what brought me here. I still have that fire in my heart, perhaps more than ever.

I look forward to sharing more reimagined songs with you from my back catalogue ahead of the release of my new album, Sparrow. This album is the soundtrack for the memoir I have just written about my life in music, published by Harper Collins, to be released in the spring of 2023.”
