Live By Request
K.d. Lang / Warner Music
By Mike

It’s refreshing to hear a concert recording made up of tunes requested by the true fans, this will certainly allow for a few musical oddities to slip in here and there. Well, I for one have always enjoyed live albums, and Canada’s K.d. Lang has done a fantastic job of getting in on the “Live By Request” act with this fourteen-track recording. Her wonderfully eclectic blend of country, blues, jazz and soul comes thumping off the stage and through your stereo. Joining K.d. on stage are Gregg Arreguin on guitar, Teddy Borowiecki on keyboards, Abe Laboriel Jr. on drums, Greg Leisz on guitar and pedal steel, David Piltch on bass, with Amy Keys, Kate Markowitz and Windy Wagner on background vocals. Recorded live at John Jay College Of Criminal Justice at The City University of New York, the group plays a tight set with a smooth flow throughout the set. The crowd couldn’t help but get into the swing of things on playful tracks like “Big Boned Gal” and “Miss Chatelaine” and K.d. really digs deep on “Constant Craving” and Roy Orbison’s “Crying”. This CD is a must have for any K.d. Lang fan, and if you’re someone who doesn’t yet own any K.d. Lang music, I highly recommend this collection of songs to get you started.
