Mint Jam / Yellow Jackets

Fans of Yellow Jackets will be glad to get double the dose of music because their current album "Mint Jam" is a double compilation cd. Band members Bob Mintzer (tenor saxophone), Russell Ferrante (acoustic piano, synthesizer), Jimmy Haslip (electric bass) and Marcus Baylor (drums) have once again put together a jammin' album. This one was recorded live at "The Mint" in Los Angeles. The first one labeled "Blue" has some neat jazz tunes such as the upbeat "Les Is Mo." The following track "Boomtown" is groovy with great saxophone playing courtesy Bob Mintzer. Motet is soft and delightful. The second cd is called "Green" and keeps on the same wavelength as the first. Tunes that stand out are the hip "Tortoise And The Hare" which is a tidle wave of sounds. "New Jig" is funky and so is "Evening News."
