This Sugar JonesSugar Jones / Universal Music By Tino After watching a few Popstars episodes and hearing their first single Days Like That, I was expecting something much more typical. But when I sat down to listen to all of their twelve tracks I was pleasantly surprised! The first thing I noticed were their lyrics in songs like If You, Keep on Walking and Never Leave Hurt Alone. The great beats and rhythms got me moving in my chair from beginning to end. This group clearly isnt targeting younger teens as much as some of their competition. I was also surprised at how their music has a cool groovy feel with hints of Soul throughout. Specifically, singer Maiko Watson had most of that Soul influence in her, which shows at the end of Never Leave Hurt Alone. Another predominant influence in this album is R&B. As the CD played on, it got deeper and deeper into these two styles and mixed beautifully with its Pop roots. Nearing the end of the album are some treats for the listener, such as two bonus tracks and a track featuring Popstars finalist, Toya Alexis. The bonus track How Much Longer (couplet en Français) is definitely some good listening! |
