There's plenty of mystical stuff attributed to the last night of each year. A big alcohol fuelled party happens in most major cities of the world and Montreal is no exception. As a result of the liquid courage many single folk see it as the perfect night to meet the person of their dreams. At the stroke of midnight each New Year's Eve plenty of singletons look for someone to kiss. It is an important ritual and one that people think could bring good luck if a relationship results because of it.

Due to all the romantic hype surrounding New Year's Eve I have done some research for the single people of Montreal as to what is out there for you in regards to parties to ring in the New Year. Here is a list of some of the most interesting in no particular order:

1) Montreal's Largest Singles New Year's Eve Party: Happening at the Grand Plaza Hotel (505 Sherbrooke East corner Berri), I don't know how they can be sure it is the largest, but that's what they are calling it. It is $78.96 for the event or $99 with breakfast included. The party is organized by Meet Market Adventures and it is happening in the beautiful Monet Ballroom at the hotel. There will be gourmet hors d'oeuvres, complimentary champagne at midnight, interactive activities, and chances to win prizes.

2) Carnavalesque - A Cirque du Boudoir: Happening at Theatre Plaza (6505 St. Hubert) starting at 9:00 p.m. and going all the way until 3:00 in the morning. A circus themed night sounds like a wild night. A night of live burlesque performances courtesy A Cirque du Boudoir should get the romantic vibes everyone in attendance really beating. Hey, there will be women in various stages of undress in the room! All that plus a cool lineup of DJs, body painting and you are encouraged to come dressed in your wildest costume. It promises to be a sexy evening.

3) New Year's Eve Pin-Up Party: There has been a movement to 'clean up' St. Laurent below Ste. Catherine and that has led to the threat of closing the legendary Cabaret Cleo (1230 St. Laurent). Well, not yet, I say! Cabaret Cleo (a strip bar and drag queen shows) is hosting a big party this New Year's Eve. Beginning at 10:00 p.m. the suggested dress code is fetish wear, leather, Victorian, and latex. There will be performances by acts like Dead Dolls Cabaret, Rena and Cleo and others. Help Cabaret Cleo celebrate it's 35th anniversary. How could this not be fun?

4) All Night Open Bar @ La Boom: For a more traditional New Year's Eve party head on over to the La Boom (1254 Stanley). As indicated by the title it is open bar all night and alcohol is a well known social interaction stimulant, if you know what I mean. Besides the open bar there will be 2 floors of dance music with 4 rooms of different types of music including hip hop, dance, old school, and R&B. Plus you get a balloon drop at midnight, party favours, light and laser show, and free giveaways.

5) Joy 2010: At the old Montreal Forum and now the Pepsi Forum (2313 Ste. Catherine West) there will be a huge party. With capability of holding 1,500 people this gives you a higher chance of meeting someone special. Beginning at 9:00 p.m. you can dance to top hip hop, house and R&B tunes played by the famous DJ Carl Anthony on one of Montreal's largest dance floors.
