Two royal princes – Thadeous (Danny McBride – Kung Fu Panda 2, 30 Minutes or Less) who is a woman chasing slacker and Fabious (James Franco – 127 Hours, Spider-Man) a brave and loyal man – join forces with the mysterious female warrior, Isabel (Natalie Portman – Black Swan, V For Vendetta) on a quest to find the evil wizard, Leezar (Justin Theroux – American Psycho, Mulholland Dr.), who has kidnapped Fabious’ love, Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel – from television’s New Girl). Along the way they have to fight ungodly creatures and some rather fierce knights. Despite myself I giggled a few times while watching Your Highness. It reminded me of the saying that even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut. There is just back to back nonsense in the Danny McBride penned film. They just keep rolling out the jokes and hoping that a portion of them work. Well, a lot more don’t work than work, but still….I laughed occasionally. That is despite the fact that the humour is childish, gross, absurd, and silly. I found part of the time I was watching the film wondering why Oscar Award-winner Natalie Portman agreed to be in it. She needed to do something incredibly light after Black Swan? She wanted to show that she could do comedy? She was offered a lot of money? It read better on the page than it turned out as a film? Whatever the reason, the fact that it was Natalie Portman saying and doing dirty things was simply a distraction. She seems to have been a good sport about it, though. Clear 8 oC

David Gordon Green was the director of Pineapple Express, so I did not go into this one thinking it would be highbrow stuff despite the fact that Natalie Portman was in it.
