As a musician he broke onto the scene in the early 1990s while playing mostly electronic, rave and techno music. Not until the release of his fifth album Play in 1999 that he achieved any mainstream success. Amazingly, after a slow start, eight singles were released from that album and it sold over 10 million copies. In total he has released 10 studio albums and has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. He is one of the major acts that was credited in the 90s for bringing dance music to the masses. Besides his own material he has also co-written, produced or remixed songs for the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Pet Shop Boys, Guns ‘n’ Roses, New Order, Metallica, and Britney Spears.
