As you would suspect (if you are a fan of Irish music), the folk band took their name from the well-known tune “The Irish Rover”. They were at the peak of their popularity when they did an internationally popular television series in the 1970s. The CBC produced show was the most popular variety show of its time. They also appeared on The Dating Game, The Smothers Brothers Show, The Mike Douglas Show, The Virginian, and The Beachcombers. They have released 25 albums over the course of their careers, won Juno and Grammy Awards, and played sold out shows all over the world. Their best known songs include “The Unicorn”, “Lord of the Dance”, “Wasn’t That a Party”, and “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer”. They started way back in 1963. The Canadian Irish band has been together a long time and the band members have the white hair to prove it. The members of the band were all born in Ireland or Northern Ireland and then met when they emigrated to Canada. A couple of the founding members met at an Irish function in Toronto where they ended up singing together all night.
