Together CN and Golf Canada are the hosts for the only LPGA event in Canada.  Last year it was held in Winnipeg and this year it is Montreal’s turn.  The top players are here en masse and the last year’s champion Michelle Wie is back in Canada to defend her title.

Over the course of four days 72 holes will be played with the cut coming after the usual 36.  The field of 156 players will be cut down to 70.  Those 70 players will compete over the last 36 holes for the purse of $2.25 million.

As I said many of the top players are in town.  Some of the names participating that you might recognize are Michelle Wie, Natalie Gulbis, Karrie Webb, Lorie Kane (Canadian), Paula Creamer, Juli Inkster, Morgan Pressel, Se Ri Pak, Cristie Kerr, and Laura Davies.    Most importantly, World Number One, Yani Tseng will be there and many in the crowd I’m sure will be eager to see the young 22-year-old star in person.  For a local flavour, there are a total of 18 Canadian players, including Anna Kim, Maude-Aimee LeBlanc, Isabelle Beisiegel, Lisa Meldrum, and Adrienne White, competing for the title and prize money.  Come out to cheer on our local ladies!

Besides all the top level golf that is happening over the course of the tournament there is also a charity aspect to it.  The LPGA helps sick children charities in whichever city it is playing in over the course of its season.  And they are quite successful!  Over the past five years they have raised $4.3 million for children’s hospitals.

There are also different areas and activities set up to compliment the great golf being played.  The CN Family Fun Zone has all kinds of activities and games (of course many with a golf orientation) for all ages.  Fun plus prizes to be won.  Coronaville is a place where you can sit back, relax, chat with friends, all while enjoying a cold Corona.  The Delmar Public Grandstand on the 18th hole will give you a fantastic view of the green.  Pick up your complimentary program at the Globe and Mail grandstand and plan out your day.
