Another year has come and gone at the Image + Nation Film Festival, but not without leaving an impression. Now, don't be frightened people, the kind of impression I'm talking about is the good kind. It is the type of impression which encourages open-mindedness, appreciation of other's ways of life and thinking, sharing of ideas, good art, art which is thought provoking, and having a good time at the movies.

By moving the entire festival up a couple of weeks to be in fall instead of winter it really helped the attendance. Several screenings were filled almost to capacity, which was great to see. This went a long way to proving that queer cinema does not necessarily equal a 'niche' in the film world and that they can finally be rightfully seen as containing universal experiences and messages.

A perfect example of a festival that 'gets' it. To thank their attendees over the Thanksgiving weekend the festival lowered the price of a ticket to $9 for the opening film "Hollywood, je t'aime". Very cool!

Here are the winning films from the festival:

GRAND JURY PRIZE - BEST FEATURE FILM
SOUNDLESS WIND CHIME (Hung Wing Kit, China/Switzerland)
"For its complex and sensual treatment of human relations, delivered with finesse in a self-reflexive narrative."

JURY PRIZE - BEST DOCUMENTARY
BEYOND GAY: THE POLITICS OF PRIDE (Bob Christie, Canada)

JURY PRIZE - BEST SHORT FILM
JAMES (Connor Clemments, Northern Ireland)
Special Jury Mention - COWBOY (Til Kleinert, Germany)
